The Role

Overview

To lead development of a web-based financial services application for one of the group’s companies. You’ll be overseeing development, security and a small team of developers whilst managing the overall product delivery deadlines.

As a Lead Web Developer you’ll foster collaborations and morale within a team of enthusiastic, talented and hard-working developers and be able to effectively communicate with the wider business and 3rd party suppliers.

Key Outputs

  • Responsibility for project managing development of future-proof web applications with a focus on security and expandability.
  • Write secure and robust back-end code for online financial applications & websites including but not limited to writing systems for secure authentication of sensitive data.
  • Maintain server-side logic and maintenance of multiple databases.
  • Development of unit tests to ensure optimal code coverage.
  • Integrating the front-end elements built by your co-workers into your server-side logic.
  • Overseeing the up keep of our cloud-based server environment. A good understanding of the LAMP stack is therefore highly important.
  • Analysing work requests, estimating and planning for implementation.
  • Lead the project/feature life cycle from initial idea to implementation and support.
  • Recruiting, coaching and personal development of Web Developers.
  • Championing technical innovation within the software development team.
  • Other ad-hoc duties as an when required by the business.

Skills & Experience

    Mandatory
  • Proficient Commercial PHP Software Development Skills
  • Solid understanding of MVC and OO PHP development.
  • Experience with PHP frameworks; preferable Symfony 4.
  • Experience with LAMP stack architecture, particularly in a cloud environment.
  • Experience with working with and writing web services & API’s.
  • Basic understanding of front-end technologies and platforms, such as JavaScript, jQuery, HTML5, and CSS3.
  • Commercial experience of code versioning tools, such as Git.
  • Good knowledge of integrating server-side development code with database servers, particularly MySQL.
  • Good knowledge of creating & maintaining databases for web applications.
    Desirable
  • Experience leading a team of Web Developers.
  • Experience with Docker & Ansible
  • Continuous deployment.

Qualifications

Degree level or studying, ideally for a Web or I.T related degree
