Staff from Pure Retirement volunteer at The Prince of Wales Hospice

24th September 2019

Staff from Leeds lifetime mortgage firm, Pure Retirement, are stepping away from their desks to volunteer at The Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract. Over the course of three volunteering days in September, they have been volunteering their time to help out around the Hospice. Tasks they have been helping out with have been varied and include gardening, painting and supporting at Outreach sessions, interacting with patients.

Since 1989, The Prince of Wales Hospice has offered palliative care to those with life limiting illnesses, as well as support for their families. Their services are available to anyone over the age of 18, living in the Five Towns region of West Yorkshire. As a registered charity, they only receive 25% of their funding from the NHS and are largely reliant on fundraising to deliver their vital services.

Pure Retirement has supported the Hospice since 2017, after a member of staff who volunteered at the Hospice at the weekends wanted to do more to help. The company was happy to allow its staff members to dedicate a working day to volunteering at the Hospice and team members were recruited to help out, marking the beginning of Pure Retirement’s corporate volunteering initiative ’Days to Make a Difference’. This allows staff to spend one day of paid time a year participating in fundraising and volunteering activity during working hours. Since 2017, team members from Pure Retirement have volunteered over 335 hours at The Prince of Wales Hospice and donated over £1,600.

Tracey Mearns, Partnership Development Coordinator at The Prince of Wales Hospice said; "We’re delighted to welcome everyone again from Pure Retirement to the Hospice for their corporate volunteering days in September for the third consecutive year. No job has ever phased them or been too much trouble and each year they all come back with smiles on their faces ready to tackle the next list for us knowing they are helping make a difference! They’re a great team to work with and we really appreciate all their hard work and support."

"In 2017 we were also fortunate to receive a grant of £200 to provide gardening equipment through The Age Partnership Charitable Foundation to support their on the day volunteering activities."
